It Still Has That New Cast Smell!

Sarah got her cast put on yesterday. She didn’t complain at all. Then she went to a family reading night with her mom. I am sure that thing will be full of signatures by the time she gets home from school today.

Its Broke

Sarah had an xray on her arm yesterday. She has two buckle fractures on her right arm. She will get casted as soon as we can get her in. It is amazing how easy I am taking this news. I guess there is no comparison between a doctor telling you that your daughter’s arm is broke and your daughter has a serious brain disease. Perspective can change a lot. She told me last night that she is going to get a pink cast. I will post pictures when she gets it.

Working Hard

Sarah had school and therapy yesterday. She is doing really good in both.

Yesterday morning started kind of rough. Sarah decided she was going to go barreling out the front door. A few seconds behind her I see her lying on the sidewalk crying. She took a spill going down the step off the front porch. I picked her up and dusted her off. After she calmed down a bit she was able to tell us where the pain was coming from. She hurt her knee and right arm. She says that she did not hit her head so that is a big relief. Her right wrist is swollen a little and is still hurting her. We think she may have fractured it but we are not sure. I have a feeling that she will be getting an xray soon.

Flashback:
Sarah has fractured her arm before. I think she was four years old when she decided to jump off a picnic table and had a buckle fracture in her arm. She screamed the whole time they were casting her. She had a death grip on me and it took me about twenty minutes to get her calm enough to get her cast put on. I bought her a stuffed animal right after that so she felt better. It didn’t slow her down one bit.

Kim took some pictures at therapy yesterday (i guess she read the blog entry from the other day).

Just sitting on a ball

Sarah has that look in her eye. That ball is about to fly.

That is a big stretch

Not sure what this thing is

We Seem To Be Going In The Right Direction

It has been up and down a little the last few days. It appeared that Sarah caught a little cold over the weekend. She was snotty and coughing. She recovered quickly and was able to go to school today. When I picked her up from school today everyone was telling me how fast she is getting around. I think she goes a little too fast sometimes. She throws caution to the wind.

Dr. Franz wants us to start bringing her down off the Trileptal. I think since seizure medications never stopped any seizures there really is no reason to keep her on them long term. It was just to keep the irritation down on the other hemisphere. Her digestion seems to be getting better. We are going to try and back off a little on the medicine she takes for that. Our plan is to have her medication free by the end of the year (or maybe the end of summer).

I was talking to a friend at work. I am always trying to get new pictures for the blog, but there is only so many pictures of Sarah sitting on the couch I want to take. It just seems like when I get home from work she is already exhausted from school and therapy.

Sarah just chill’n

Look, they are all together and not driving each other crazy

Doing Great

Sarah’s bug went away within a day. She is doing really good now. There are a lot of kids in her class out sick, so I guess it was just a matter of time before she caught something. One of her friends has strep throat. We are hoping that the antibiotics that Sarah is taking for her digestive issue (which is getting better) will keep her from getting anything like that.

Her teacher told us yesterday that she has moved up a level on the books that she is reading. She is doing really good in school. I am hoping that her therapists start forcing her to work with her right hand and arm more. She refuses to use it (or even try) at home.

Sarah Caught A Bug

Well Sarah went to church this week and did really well. She woke up yesterday with a fever and was vomiting. Kim found out that a few other kids in her class were home sick too. She rested and seems a lot better today. She was up chasing her little sister around the house this morning, and is in a good mood (Sarah’s usually not a morning person).

Sarah still has a low grade fever. If it breaks this morning she can go to therapy this afternoon.

Back To School

Sarah has been at school all this week and is doing great. Most people are saying that she is better than before her last surgery. I think it was getting her off of some of the seizure meds that has woke her brain up a little. She hasn’t vomited at all this week. She is doing well in therapy, but it is wearing her down (that is to be expected).

The big change in her I have seen is that she doesn’t want to just sit around anymore. She wants to play games all the time. We had some thrilling rounds of Uno and Guess Who the other night.

She has an appointment with Dr. Franz (Neurologist) today.

Out & About

Sarah has had a couple of really good days. We took a trip to the Cincinnati Zoo yesterday. Sarah walked most of it and if you have been to the Cincy Zoo you know what a challenge that would be for her. All the kids had a really good time. After the zoo we went out for dinner and then shopping. Sarah was completely exhausted and went to bed shortly after we got home.

Our plan was for Sarah to go to church today, but we forgot to change our clocks for daylight savings time so we got up too late to get everyone ready. I am sure we will make it next week.

We praise God for the good days Sarah is having and pray that she has no more bad ones. Maybe she can go back to school this week.

Just An Update

Well Sarah is having good times and some rough times still. She felt fine most of the day yesterday, but vomited a lot after lunch and a tiny bit after dinner. She did feel fine and wanted to eat before going to bed.

She is having school today at home. Hopefully that goes well. I hate to see her get too far behind with her education. She is already going to have to have school after her class in out for summer break.

Back To The Ups

Sarah had a great day yesterday. She didn’t get to go to church, but she felt good all day. She is having a pretty good day so far playing with her sister and grandmother. She didn’t have any naps yesterday. I am not sure if that is a pattern or not. I am going to keep praying for more ups and less downs. I would love to see Sarah get back to school soon. It is nerve racking just thinking about sending her to school during the flu season. We will just have to keep getting feelers from her school nurse about the health of everyone. She just doesn’t need any unnecessary risks.
